Memorandum of Understanding with Oranga Tamariki

Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled People and Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children are working together to support disabled tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by both agencies to strengthen our working relationship and provide guidance for best practice.

This MoU reaffirms our commitment to working together to improve outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi, and their whānau.

The Roles and Responsibilities Guidelines (the Guidelines) have been developed to support the implementation of this MoU.

The Guidelines aim to ensure staff working with disabled tamariki and rangatahi, and their whānau, understand the working environment and processes in place to support them.

The Guidelines support the implementation of existing operational policies and the guidance has been developed with the support and input of operational staff at Whaikaha and Oranga Tamariki.

The MoU was signed on 29 June 2021 by the Disability Directorate of the Ministry of Health and Oranga Tamariki. On 1 July 2022, the Disability Directorate of the Ministry of Health transitioned to Whaikaha.
